Scars of Victory Honoring Rusty Hames
Each October, our family proudly supports the Adult Congenital Heart Program at Texas Children's Hospital in memory of Rusty, our beloved heart warrior, advocate, and inspiration. Rusty's journey with TCH began in 1981, and throughout his life, he formed a deep bond with the hospital. He would walk the halls during his many stays, encouraging young families facing similar battles. He gave them hope, asked the hard questions, and helped shape how doctors engaged with their patients.
Rusty was a force; his strength, kindness, and bold spirit impacted everyone who knew him. He was passionate about advocating for heart warriors of all ages, and that passion drives our family to continue his legacy today. Rusty took great pride in being a volunteer as a patient advocate on the addition of the 24th floor before its opening in November of 2020. On October 1, 2025, Rusty would have turned 51. We remember and celebrate him each year by supporting the place that meant so much to him.
Our goal with this year's fundraiser is to raise $25,000.00 and have room 2409 named in his memory. Please consider joining us this October to remember Rusty's legacy by supporting the Adult Congenital Heart Program at Texas Children's Hospital, an extraordinary place that gave him and many others hope and healing.
