Advancing cerebellar science for health and healing
Join us for advancing cerebellar science for health and healing, a vital fundraiser dedicated to advancing groundbreaking research at the Cerebellum Science Center.
Often called the “little brain,” the cerebellum plays a powerful role in controlling balance, coordination, learning, speech, and emotion. When cerebellar function is disrupted, the consequences can be life-altering. Millions of individuals worldwide live with cerebellar disorders such as ataxia, dystonia, tremor, autism, ADHD, and other neurological conditions that limit independence and quality of life. Unfortunately, cerebellar formation is exceedingly sensitive in the millions of children born prematurely, who ultimately deal with a range of motor and cognitive problems that stem from abnormal cerebellar development. In addition, medulloblastoma—the most common pediatric brain cancer—originates in the cerebellum, posing life-threatening challenges for children and families. Moreover, adult-onset neurodegeneration of the cerebellum is a devastating consequence of genetic changes, brain injury, and alcohol overconsumption. Together, the overwhelming number of problems that can affect the cerebellum should highlight the immediate need to consider cerebellar health as a lifelong priority.
This fundraiser is inspired by children like Arella, a young patient living with an SPTAN1 genetic mutation that causes cerebellar deficiencies resulting in complex neurological symptoms, including seizures, developmental delay, speech apraxia, fine motor challenges, emotional dysregulation, and sleep disturbances. Arella’s journey reflects the daily reality faced by countless families—and the urgent need for answers, treatments, and hope.
Funds raised will directly support pioneering research focused on uncovering the genetic and cellular causes of these conditions and developing innovative therapies to restore movement, cognition, and emotional regulation. Thanks to recent advances in genetics and brain imaging, the field stands at a critical turning point—but progress depends on sustained support.
Every dollar raised fuels discovery, empowers scientists, and brings us closer to meaningful treatments—and ultimately, cures. Together, we can transform lives and redefine what’s possible for those affected by cerebellar disease.
Why This Fundraiser Matters
- The cerebellum is essential to movement, cognition, speech, and emotional regulation.
- Millions worldwide are affected by cerebellar disorders and medulloblastoma, with limited treatment options.
- Research funding in this critical area remains scarce.
- Scientific breakthroughs are within reach—but require support.
- Your contribution directly accelerates research, therapy development, and education.
