This award was established to honor the memory and legacy of Debbie Cody, a beloved member of the Pediatric Critical Care Medicine family. Her big heart and warm smile greeted us in our offices every day. Visiting her desk was a part of our daily ritual, the check in with the matriarch of our work family. Behind her well organized desk, sat the heart of our operation. From those interviewing to join our team, to the senior-most members of our faculty, she made sure we were ready to launch into our endeavors well supported, and knowing that we could always rely on her. 

Debbie was a big believer in the power of critical thinking and education. She obtained Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees while working full time. A naturally curious person, she always made sure to ask “why”, and brought her insights to every meeting. Her contribution to the growth of the Cardiac Intensive Care team and all its members is invaluable. She left an indelible mark on our professional lives, and her loss has left a big hole in our hearts. She would be delighted to know that her legacy lives on not only in the many careers she nurtured, but also in the opportunities for additional education made possible by this award. We will to use the money raised to give an annual award to a member of our division’s administrative team and  trainees who seek additional educational opportunities for professional development.
